Like a bad perm.

Here is some spun flax, skeined up.

Click here if you like to be freaked out.

(Yeah, it was freaky, but not that freaky. I know. It's slow around here today.)

It gets a little crazy kinky when you release the tension. I had a hard time taking the picture because I needed to keep both hands in the skein to keep it from getting tangled.

Vain about my granny socks

One thing I never thought I'd be doing was posting up pictures of my feet on the internet.

Just something running through my mind as I was taking a bizillion pictures of my feet, of which you get to see only two!

So, here goes:

Sorry about the shadows.

Yarn: Trekking, shade 100.
They are a little too big and give me granny ankles. But, don't get me wrong, I still like them.

Next time, I'll listen when Carolyn says, "Cast on 63 or 65!! Anything else is insane!!

Mental Filing

So, I remembered I had had some fingerless mittens in the fun knitting queue.

But I'd mentally removed them from the fun knitting queue because it's Spring and I'd been, as much as I am loathe to admit this, sort of bored with knitting fingerless mittens.

So, they ended up in the it's-no-longer-fun knitting queue.

They were also cross-referenced in the out-of-yarn queue.

But luckilly, I feel like spinning, and I need a reason to spin these days, so the mittens are back in.

What's left to spin. About 1/4 ounce. Will it be enough? Will the fingerless mittens end up more than just finger-less due to lack of yarn?

I need to finish this

This sweater has been monopolizing 2 of my cable needles since last June. The nerve.

It's time to finish! But what to do? Apparently one year is not enough time for me to decide. Cardigan? Not a cardigan? Raglan? Not a raglan?

The mind boggles.

Feh
And see? I really have two sleeves done already!

Bye!

"Luke, I am your father."

My friend gave me a knitting machine and I can't believe my good fortune.

Passap Duomatic 80
Check out the row counter. (Love that row counter.)

And just so's you know, the directions for this knitting machine, while sort of Ikea vague, are still so much more easier to understand than my Creelman circular sock machine's directions. (i.e., "For Brevity the following instruction is expressed in as few words as possible, to give operators an idea, rather than a full explanation....", which is code for, "we, The Editors of this here Manual, like The Florid Language but really don't know how to use this Creelman Sock Machine. We will try to confuse you so you do not realize that this is so. Good Luck!")

So, see ya around, I'm going over* to the darkside.

*technically just visiting for stuff like tubular cast ons and vast expanses of stockinette. Or fair isle. Or just whatever. This thing is cool. Still don't really have a clue on how to really use it without breaking it, but I will find out. Anybody?

Carolyn's Rogue

Check it out. I'm knitting a sweater. (This is surprising because I'd sworn off knitting sweaters last month. But I don't think I told anyone that. )

A bag of Cestari yarn + Rogue pattern= you guess!

Niddy Noddy New

I love niddy noddies. I am not big on collecting things (um, except yarn, there's a flaw in my logic there somewhere), but it seems that I have amassed enough niddy noddies to start wondering where to put them all. Well, okay I have only three. But there's an obvious redundancy there.

And did you know my old blog was called "Niddy Noddy?"

I like them that much.

Anyway, I am only bringing up niddy noddies because I managed to find another one at mdsw. Like that was hard.

My new one was made by Gilbert Gonsalves.

As I was leaving the fairgrounds I heard someone say, "That's a BIG niddy noddy!"

And they would be right.

MDSW--in the spirit of the fest, a disjointed blog entry

Because so many things are coming at one at these things, here I give to you a post in all its unedited and throw-it-at-you glory.

Some old bobbins.

Would you believe I came home with more freckles than fiber?

I feel I could quickly become addicted to this. So I stayed away. Maybe when I run out of sock yarn*, I'll give this a try.

Freckles were acquired while watching a sheep shearing guy with a Madonna-esque microphone shear sheep and refer to these sheep as "The Girls," as in "The girls had dirty bums this morning." or "This girl has a little meat on the brisket." (Ha ha?)

Llamas or alpacas out for a Sunday walk.

Anyway, I didn't buy anything to spin. Boggles the mind, don't it?

How does an alpaca go?

I bought a bunch of sock yarn, an o-hook (short for orifice hook, which I think it a nicer name for it, don't you agree?) and yet another niddy noddy.

Sheep to Shawl
The gods must be crazy. Eh?

*But who ever runs out of sock yarn anyway?

Consistently random

If I am anything, that is.

So, spun some flax. Was fun. No sneezing this time.

I know what you're thinking--Bonus!

See you at Maryland Sheep and Wool.

Exercises in patience

I thought this would be fun to make for Becky:

Intarsia makes me antsy.

It's a jumper with flowers on the pockets. The flowers, I thought for sure their lure would be irresistible to a 3-year-old girl.

I mean, you can put all sorts of little girl stuff in those pockets. Dried flowers, wilted flowers, seeds from your everything bagel (to plant because "we can grow more bagels for breakfast tomorrow"), old band-aids, beautiful rocks, random twigs, impossibly small stuffed animals..you know, all that fun stuff.

But I was mistaken. I have been told that had the pockets been pink, they might have been totally irresistible, but in blue, not so much.

How did I forget about the little girl pink thing?

So What?

Sew buttons.

The buttons didn't really fit the mental picture of the buttons I'd dreamed up in my head on the way to the store. But in the interest of closure, I bought them anyway.

The buttonholes are crochet. Crochet, it is fun.

Who knew?
