Math, I'm not complaining...

Hello and blah blah blah... How are you? I decided to knit a sweater out of some yarn I found ("found" as if I didn't always know it was there) while I was going through yarn to clear out and sell on ebay.

Cotton Silk Aran from Cotton Knits for All Seasons

It is some old cotton silk aran yarn from Debbie Bliss. It's nice yarn, but I think there should be some sort of notice on the label that reads, "Be sure to immediately unwind 5 yards and discard because there is ALWAYS a knot and what is the point of starting knowing you are going to get a knot that soon in. Enjoy this information and happy knitting!" Bogus.

Also, interesting to note, this sweater takes 20 balls of yarn! Right from the get-go and figuring a little math thru, that means 40 ends to darn it. But if we step up the math (stats?) a bit and factor in the fact that I randomly forget the rule to unwind those first 5 yards, that adds a few random extra ends to sew in. Actually, no math, let's just estimate for fun--perhaps 50% of the time I will forget to unwind, so let's add 20 more ends!

Hopefully, I will learn over time to seriously remember the 5 yard rule and that percentage will fall. Here's hoping!

Meta Post-Its

What's this? Posting again? A post yesterday and a post today? Two consecutive days in a row? What's up with that? And what is up with me bragging about posting 2 days in a row, when this post is really just about how I posted yesterday. (And today!) Metaposting, I love it. I could go on and on for many posts talking about how I posted yesterday. My blog could become, not a knitting blog, but a blog about how I blogged yesterday. But you all would think I'm crazy. That is if you don't already! (haha, joking...)

Oh well, I was just warming up. Just a little stream of consciousness for you.

Well, I signed in here to post about the sweater I just managed to finish. It is from Kim Hargreaves and was some good easy, useable knitting. The sweater is very plain (garter stitch) and in a very neutral color, which I'm finding suits me better. Why? Because I actually wear the sweater then! Always a good thing.

So to sum up, for the first 7 years of my knitting days, I was seduced by colorful color and made sweaters that I never wear...and now I am coming to know that brown and grey and slate and navy are what I like. (And a little violet here and there--for fun!)

Focus!

A closer view of the sleeves and the collar.

Focussed a little.

If it looks like Ginko...

This scarf reminds me of Ginko leaves. Believe it or not, I have a favorite leaf and it is Ginko.

Did you know that the pretty little Ginko leaf is the only leaf with dichotomous venation on the planet? I learned that in 9th grade Biology class. And it's the only thing I remember besides this guy Chris H. running around with frog parts during the dissection part of the class.

You know what? Now I'm going to think of Chris H. and that frog whenever I see my scarf. Damn!

Yes, but what the hell is a Ginko tree?

Spring Cleaning

Happy Spring! I am cleaning out a lot of my yarns and a few bigger items, namely a Passap Duomatic 80 knitting machine and its accessories and hocking it on ebay. Still mulling over selling my Creelman sock machine. I'll be adding stuff all week.

You can find my auctions here: Woolflowers

MetaBlogging

Or, blogging about blogging. But in a roundabout way.

Okay, technically just blogging about getting a desk from which to blog, er, work. Compute?

So, I got a new desk! Actually, it's more like a table. Actually, it's more like a few pieces of wood sort of perched together in the same place. Just a little rickety. For instance, when I type, like I am right now, the whole things shakes and threatens to perhaps fall apart. Actually, I exaggerate. It is pretty sturdy for not being screwed together. But I was warned about that. I just haven't have the wherewithal (yet) to screw it together, seeing that it will stay together using the mere force of gravity. Besides, I spent enough time taking the thing apart and moving it around to sand off years of dirt and something resembling tape or contact paper. And then cleaning it. And oiling it. And cleaning it some more. It was very dirty. I will put a spirit finish on it someday. (I say that about everything. Someday.)

The sign says:
YOU CAN WALK WITH A WOODEN
LEG AND YOU CAN CHEW WITH
FALSE TEETH, BUT YOU CAN'T
SEE WITH A GLASS EYE!
WEAR SAFETY GLASSES

Words to live by.

I love my new desk, despite its ricketiness. I haven't had my very own desk since I left my cubicle job. (And it's a little bit funny that I now choose to cram my desk up in a corner--very cubicle-esque.)

For the past few years, I would blog from my kitchen counter. Didn't even have a chair. Hey, I got a chair now too. Living large, I am.

Now that I have a desk and a chair, prepare for some full-on intense, um, computer work. No time to knit no more no how. (Just kidding)

Now the only other thing to do is decide where to put the displaced loom. (I am constantly playing musical furniture at my house.)
