June 21, 2006 KNITTING! WHAT'S KNITTING? (plus a little complaining) I can't believe it, it's been too long since I posted. I am still knitting, honest. (But for the record, I did just almost forget how to upload a pix to Moveable Type. Haha. Funny, eh?) So far I have been working on a Kim Hargreaves sweater: Lilac from Kim Hargreaves. I have finished the sleeves and am working on the back. You knit the lace edging in one swoop and then pickup and knit the back and then each side separately. Despite my misgivings on this assembly technique, I didn't feel like working it out the other way and wanted to just get at it. And I do have a fondness for seams anway. But I decided to Knit As Writ. I needed a sweater STAT. Speaking of which, a lace chart for that lace peplum strip would have been nice instead of that crazy written out, line by line shit. Talk about slowing me down and messing up my whole Spring wardrobe plans. Sheesh! Humph! And I know I could have charted it out, but yet again, I thought I could just put my head down and tough it out through that lace strip. (It must be the Irish in me.) What can I say, it seemed like the easier way out at the time....but it turned out to be such a drag following these row by row directions that I put the whole sweater away for a month. Cause, don't you know, once you are halfway through the lace strip, it's not worth it to do up the chart then. And you are halfway done! Why waste time making up the chart NOW? Shoulda done it to begin with. Anyway. To conclude: Charts=nice. Written out shit=not nice. Okay, I got THAT out of my system. I'll be nice now. :-) Anyway, I've been working on The Somewhat Cowl using the exact yarn and color in the original, and swatching for this Debbie Bliss Guernsey bobble and cable number for Becky. She's nuts about the bobbles! She went to the yarn store with me and picked some red cotton yarn. Curiously, I kept trying to talk her into some pink. There once was a day when I would have been trying to talk her into the red. Guess it's easy to tell where she gets her oppositional behavior... I will save the pix of those for another day. The Somewhat Cowl is almost done. I am knitting on the cowl, round and round.... OH AND I SUCCUMBED TO THE NEW PHILDAR MAGAZINE--that one for les Jeunes Femmes. Not that I am one of those. ha!
