January 10, 2007 Rambling Rose A few things about the design: I always loved this sweater. Recently, whenever I see a sweater in a magazine and think "Oh like that", it turns out to be Laura Zukaite. One of my next things to knit is her Circle Lace cardigan. Anyway, I loved this sweater in the bright pinks, I liked the idea of the lace part being brought to the fore by the use of color. And it sort of reminded me of a baseball shirt raglan. Not that I am in to baseball, but I like raglans. I briefly considered making a 2-color version in blues very close together in depth of color but the idea of working intarsia, well, realistically, I thought better of it. I made a few changes to the sleeves, which is pretty normal for me since I always have to shorten them, me being so short and all. What I did was make the sleeves 3/4 in length (haha, that was unintentional as I was shooting for full length sleeves, but let's pretend I intended it) and I used the scallop pattern numbers for the larger size and then decreased down to the smaller size for the rest of the sleeve. This gives the sleeves a little flare. I like how it looks in the scallops. Buttonholes: got them all mismeasured and even forgot to put in a buttonhole. I was really ready to be done apparently. But that's okay. I don't use the button where I missed the corresponding buttonhole. A few things about the yarn: I used the Koigu Kersti in a solid color because I think the yarn had a lot to do with how it draped and how the spin and ply of the yarn shows the lace. (I sound like a hotshot don't I?) Anyway, this sweater took a lot less yarn than the 2-color version and that's a good thing if you are looking (hunting fanatically) for a full dyelot of Kersti to use. (I bought from 2 dyelots.) I used 3 fewer skeins of the Koigu Kersti and had almost a whole 4th leftover as well. It is so hard to find a full dyelot of Koigu Kersti, either you find a color you love and there are not enough skeins in the dyelot or you see 20 skeins of an unacceptable color. Just can't win! And honestly, it's not the color that draws me to Kersti, it's the texture and drape. Yes, I know. I gotta clean up the house someday.
