leigh-
you are too funny. that is EXACTLY what Iw as going to do with that bag.. convert it to the round and make it that way.. shall we put our collective heads together? I was even *gasp* considering doing it and FELTING the darn thing.
It looks great Leigh!
Go for it...knit the Fair Isle bag. I'm sure you'll do an amazing job :)
Posted by Amy at May 12, 2004 10:36 AMi think we need to come up with an intarsia project big enough that you will not be able to fall back on duplicate stitch. i'm thinking about making my dad that john lennon/british flag sweater in the jaeger book we looked at in the hotel room...
Posted by carolyn at May 12, 2004 11:05 AMThat detail of Anouk looks great! Can't wait to see the rest...
Posted by Marie at May 12, 2004 01:10 PMVery nice....yes Intarsia is *hell*. Love the way your pockets looks...so sweet. The FI bag is a MUST in the round...shouldn't be too hard to convert (easier than knitting back and forth! LOL).
If I wasn't feeling so buried (in more than just knitting) I'd join in but think it will wait for another day. I'll be watching, however!
For goodness sake, what was that woman thinking designing it flat! Your humor cracks me up. Be careful with the Bernina. Last time I took mine out to do something quick I injured my finger.
Anouk looks cute. I need a girl to knit it for.
I must be totally insane, I actually enjoy intarsia and fair isle in the flat. I'm so odd! Anouk is looking gorgeous, cant wait to start mine..
Posted by kerrie at May 12, 2004 02:45 PMHm, fair isle knitted flat.... Yep, what was she thinking?!? I have a fair isle cardigan that I knitted from VK Baby Knits book and it's supposed to knitted flat (because of the kimono styled opening). Of course with a little creativity, I knitted it in the round. I plan to do the bag in the round, you just need to place the markers on each end and pretend you are knitting each side as if it's knitted flat.
Okay, I think what I just wrote sounded funny, but really, it's easy. :-)
Can't wait to see Anouk!
Posted by Rose at May 12, 2004 03:46 PMwell I haven't seen the magazine yet but saw a picture of the bag somewhere on the internet- it is very pretty!
The jumper is darling, too!
I almost croaked when I read the instructions for the fair isle bag - knitted flat? What was she thinking? If you do end up translating it into the round, I'd be happy to trade something neat for a copy of the patter :)
Posted by Kitty at May 12, 2004 06:21 PMI *knew* if I pointed the gun your way, you'd put the intarsia down. Smart girl, you are. :)
Posted by Kerstin at May 12, 2004 07:54 PMI was looking at that pattern just last night and thinking the same thing. I think the idea about using the makers at the "side seams" will work just fine... then pick up to do the bottom. Also, simplify by not bothering with "texture" stitches. And be lazy and just do a solid color...hey it's the bottom, right? The casings... just do oversized "buttonholes" ? JaggerSpun Re-Dun Digit Heather is on sale at KnitPicks!
Posted by Rebecca at May 12, 2004 08:43 PMYour Becky is the best dressed little girl! Do you ignore her, though? I mean, will she be in therapy because all her mommy did was knit when she was little (hee hee-I keep telling my girls that there are alot of people studying psychology that will need patients, and I am providing a service!)
Posted by Teresa C at May 12, 2004 08:53 PMI'm in on the bag! When are you going to start?
What do you think about doing a seed stitch bottom the picking up stitches around the edges then following the Fair Isle pattern?
Posted by Melissa at May 13, 2004 06:20 PMI think the duplicate stitch looks great! If I'm rushed (per usual) I may not even ATTEMPT the intarsia. Knit on! BTW, the lace above is gorgeous!
Posted by Julia at May 14, 2004 01:53 PMDuplicate stitch looks awesome! What are you doing to reinforce the pocket? How is the sewing machine involved? I'm intrigued.
