Comments: Microwave Finishing

I'm curious. The microwaving of the yarn is a new phenomenon for me. What's it all about?

Its a pretty skien!

That is one pur-dy hank of yarn! Great spinning skills, too!

That is absolutely amazing. It really gives a completely different yarn, doesn't it?! I think we need a tutorial, here. I'd be sweatin' about putting my wonderful yarn in the micro.....

Pretty pretty pretty! So soft and gentle in colors.

Beautiful yarn, and beautiful colors!! It sure does bloom, doesn't it!

Happy Spinning to you ... from an envious spinner waiting patiently for her own Robin to arrive :-D

Wow, that microwaving really makes a difference. So, what exactly do you do with the microwave? I imagine it involves a bit of steam or something? I would love to know! My handspun skeins could use a bit of plumping too.

Wow-- what a difference. How long did you nuke it?

Leigh, you newly spun wool and stylin' new wheel make ME want to spin...and, I never really had a desire to do that...EVER.

Beautiful. I am intrigued on why the yarn has to microwaved...do tell.

Sorry to be OT to this thread, but I just popped over here from the knitty archives! Accordian sweater looks fabulous and that cable cuff thing you are working on looks just incredible!!

Hoooray for knittin' mamas!

Wow - how beautiful and inspiring... although "spinning, dyeing and microwaving" in the same sentence sound more like text from a bad horror movie than something I'm used to reading on a blog! Just the same, I'm intrigued and in utter awe.

that would make a lovely easter hat :)

We emailed about spinning classes near me in Fairfiled county. I took your advice and found a weekend workshop at Brookfield Craft Center. It was very informative. Now I need to get a wheel.
Please let me know if you are going to the nutmeg spinners next meeting.
Thanks.

Hi there,
Beautiful skein! I'm also interested in your microwave technique.. although I have done this before.. taken a freshly spun skein, wrap it in a wet (but wrung out) towel.. put the whole thing in the micro for about a minute and take it out to cool... is that what you did?
