Hey, I'm trying to lube up my wheel today but I can't get the damn honkin' huge can of danish oil open. Waaaaah. Guess I could ask the cute guy at the hardware store to help, but I'm feelin' kind of like a lazy daisy.

Call me ignorant, but what is the advantage of having different niddy noddies? Can you creat different-sized hanks? Do more than one hank at once?

Colleen: Exactly right on both counts!

Anna: A niddy noddy is a tool used to wind hanks of yarn off a bobbin or spindle. (I also use mine when ripping out sweaters.) They come in different sizes. I have a very small one for my spindle spinning and a bigger one for the wheel spinning. They make certain length hanks, so you can count the yardage. A very useful tool!

Anyway, there's a difference between "accumulating" things and "collecting" them--the latter implies a deliberate attempt to amass as many as possible, while the former is more an accidental, serendipitous event--you didn't mean to, it just happened! (This is how my library grew . . . books just come into my house, I can't help it!)

I did not KNOW that. (that your old blog was called Niddy Noddy) I'm just picturing the future archeologists digging up Leigh's site and finding all these odd pieces of wood and wondering what the HECK is this? Kindling? :-)
